The Greatest Debut of 2017 Star Wars: The Last Jedi Raking $200 Million in Its Opening Weekend

 

The Last Jedi earned $45 million in the US and Canada and stands second to $57 million grossed by The Force Awakens in 2015. This popular space epic began with tremendous ticket sales that placed it on track to stack around $200 million across American theatres through the weekend as mentioned by its distributor Walt Disney Co.

The Last Jedi is the eighth instalment of the Star Wars sequence of the saga devised by George Lucas in 1977. It starts off with the culmination of Star Wars: Force Awakens, that generated above $2 billion globally. In the Force Awakens the scavenger Rey requests Skywalker to emerge from the seclusion to support the fight against malevolent First Order.

The latest film casts actor Carrie Fisher’s parting performance in the role of General Leia, who become presently a leader. Carrie Fisher passed away in December 2016 due to a heart attack. The movie carries forward the saga of Rey and her sighting of the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, who is exiled and also includes the tale of the combat between General Leia Organa’s Resistance with the First Order. New co-actors cast are Benicio Del Toro, Kelly Marie Tran and Laura Den.

The movie was released on December 15, 2017, in theatres. A sequel, Star Wars: Episode IX, is also planned to be released on December 20, 2019, indicating the closure of the sequel trilogy.

On a lighter note, Rahul Gandhi also went to watch the Hollywood flick Star Wars in New Delhi’s PVR Chanakya film theatre only to draw flak from the political circuit.
